Meet the Director

Meet the Bell Choir Director Lola Knox

Lola started playing in bell choirs & singing in choirs at age 5 at her church in San Antonio. She taught herself to play piano when she heard “The Navy Hymn” at President Kennedy’s funeral. The sound of the strings used in certain Beatles songs led her at an early age to develop a love for classical music. She began piano and ‘cello lessons in 5th grade.
Lola’s degree is in Choral Music from Texas State University. She taught music for 20 of her 27 years in San Antonio Independent School District, while maintaining a private music studio. Her teaching experience gave her an opportunity to clock over 200 hours of choral music study with such famous choral conductors, arrangers and composers as Eric Whitacre, Moses Hogan, Anton Armstrong, Rollo Dilworth, Z. Randall Stroope, Richard Johnson, Sandra Snow, Doreen Rao and Siegried Johnson. It was due to the inspiration and insight of these renowned choral conductors that her choir always won top honors in her district.
Aside from the ‘cello and piano, Lola plays a variety of other instruments, including flute, recorders, guitar, violin, percussion, and didgeridoo. She plays in the Central Oregon Recorder Consort, is Rehearsal Assistant for Youth Choir of Central Oregon, sings in the Central Oregon Cascade Chorale, her church choir and Sister’s Chorale.
